Entry for As You See It Challenge #156

Ahem, yes, I've been MIA in blogland for...2 years! Just yesterday I sent out my monthly Stampin' Up! newsletter and had a link for my "Sad and neglected blog", but there are still some good ideas on the few blog posts that I do have here. (insert crying laughing emoji).

I recently cleaned my craft room for one our Kaleidoscope Team challenges and whenever I clean my room, I always get the urge to create which leads to mess. It's a never ending cycle really. The good news is that I've been creating and finding JOY in the creating. That's what's important. Especially when I've been held hostage making memories with 4 children for 3 months!

Well, you didn't come here for my witty writing, you came to see my project! Here it is:

Here's the Challenge:

And here is my entry:

I created this card to play along with As You See It Challenge Blog. Challenge #156 It's a colour challenge to use Real Red, Elegant Eggplant, and the new Lemon Lime Twist! It's difficult to tell, but this is a cosmic frappe, complete with Wink of Stella glitter! Created by Tamara Casorso #Stampinup #papercraftingwithtamaracasorso #aysiblog #challenge156

I call it the Cosmic Frappe! Remember when Starbucks was doing all those goofy and ridiculously high calorie fancy frappes? This is my version. I used the Shaving Cream technique (which now I incidentally smell like a freshly shaven man) and swirled Real Red and Elegant Eggplant Stampin' Up! reinkers around in it. Then smoosh a piece of Whisper White card stock and wipe off the excess. I used the coordinating framelits to cut out the shape of the cup. Also fun, I made a mask using a window sheet and the new Embossing Paste and made that somewhat fluffy looking whipped cream to go on top! I also cut out a window sheet to make the plastic dome on top of the frappe. I know Starbucks uses more of a Garden Green coloured straw, but Lemon Lime Twist was the green (or yellow?) of the challenge.

A few other fun accents are the wave-like framelit from Swirly Scribbles and the Star Textured Impressions Embossing Folder. And don't forget the clear Wink of Stella. You can't tell, but that Frappe has a whole lot of sparkle to it! I covered it with Wink of Stella to make it look extra cosmic-y.

I hope you enjoy my entry for As You See It Challenge #156!

Happy Stamping,

Tamara

I heard a little...grunt? (AYSI Challenge #011)

We (meaning my kids) have this little book called "I Heard a Little Baa".  The first line is something like, I heard a little baa, it woke me from my sleep. First I saw some wooly fur and then I saw...a sheep!

Well, there's not a whole lot that rhymes with rhino. Whino, albino, lino...none of them fit with today's card. In fact, the only thing that has anything to do with today's card is the rhino. Um, ya. You read right.  Have a peek at this little fella:

I'm playing along with this week's As You See It Challenge which is to use the colours So Saffron, Blushing Bride, and Pistachio Pudding as beautifully displayed in the challenge photo:
Love those bikes! I was tempted to go with a bicycle themed card, but decided to do a baby/kid card instead.

The photos speak for themselves mostly. I used the Morning Post numbers to create a colourful and fun background and our little rhine takes center stage. This would be a great baby card or a birthday card for a special little one :)

Hope you're leaving inspired!

AYSI #002

I love, love, LOVE this sketch! So much fun!! I made a goal for myself this Stampin' Up! year that I would use more Designer Series Paper.  So far, I am managing to use it on most of my projects as of late!! Today is no exception! I love how the numbers from the Soho Subway DSP pack are an important element of today's card. Fitting for a birthday, I think!

Here's the sketch:

AYSIChallenge002
And here's my take:

I hesitated ordering Positively Chevron (that gumbo background stamp) as I wasn't sure the chevron pattern would stick around. I'm still not "positive" it will, but I couldn't hold myself back any longer. I have a thing for chevrons.  To get the worn look, I inked up the entire stamp (it's a big one) and then just dabbed it with a scrap of paper. Lightly in some places, more pressure in others. This gave it an uneven, slightly worn effect. Easy peasy.

I also chose to use linen thread as the vertical piece of the sketch as I didn't want to cover up any of those gorgeous numbers. I'm planning to recreate multiples of this card (it didn't take long) to give to our church's Kid's Birthday Ministry. We send out over 200 cards a year to each and every child who has a birthday! We have a great team of about 8 ladies, I think ;)

...And that sweet little cupcake. Here's your closeup, Cupcake..

Again I used Sketched Birthday on this project. I've really been drawn to that set lately. The sketchy images are just fun, I suppose. I used Stampin' Write markers to colour the image Early Espresso and Crisp Cantaloupe. I pulled those colours from the Soho Subway DSP. That's a great way to coordinate your card. Just use the same colours as your DSP.

Here's one more view, just because it's fun:

Hope you enjoy the sketch challenge and that the Design Team entries inspire you to create something you love!!

Have a fun & creative weekend!

Today's the day!

Well peeps, the big day has FINALLY arrived! You've met all of the design team members and now it's time to be inspired and GO CREATE! We're SO excited to launch this new challenge blog and hope that LOTS and LOTS of you will play along with us!

Here's the sketch: Apparently the sketch didn't upload correctly in the original post. Hopefully this time it does :)

https://mail-attachment.googleusercontent.com/attachment/?ui=2&ik=a73588eee7&view=att&th=140f3c12a443511b&attid=0.1&disp=inline&realattid=f_hl9iufxr0&safe=1&zw&saduie=AG9B_P8GjBc7I_N4U8us9BK18qZb&sadet=1378592679391&sads=C6L9aucM8lNhxD1bIZkl9W-vuzU
And here's what I came up with:

A little busier than my normal style (if I have a normal...or a style???) One of my goals this Stamping year is to use more Designer Series Paper. I order it because I love it and then I.do.not.use.it. None of it. It sits, looking extremely pretty, on the shelf never to grace the front of a card. Enter DSP. This is from the Birthday Basics pack. The colours are fun and I thought this would make a great kids card. The card is busy, kids are busy. Perfect!

Here's another view:
And just because I wanted to see it a bit different, I created this one. Similar but not the same.
The Crisp Cantaloupe flags are a little long for my liking (say that 3 times fast) and I like how they look when embossed rather than plain as is here. I do, however, like those balloons. They fill up the white space a little more. The balloons are stamped off once in Smoky Slate.

Which one is your favourite? Do you think this would be a good kids' card?  Leave me a comment and let me know :)

Enjoy your FRIDAY! And a have a great weekend!

Cake & Splatter

Sometimes I find the hardest part of writing a blog post is coming up with a catchy title. I want to attract readers' attention by snagging their curiosity. Did it work with you? What did you anticipate finding in this post? A food fight?

It's a super fun card. I CASE'd it from my upline, Desiree Spenst. I changed it up (as usual) to fit the products I had on hand. In this case, everything revolved around what colour reinkers I had and a coordinating ribbon.

Here's the card. See all those splotches on the whisper white panel? That's the splatter.

The colours I've used for this card are Pool Party, Midnight Muse, Daffodil Delight, and Whisper White.  It's difficult to see, but the Whisper White panel is embossed with the Modern Mosaic TIEF and then using Stampin' Spritzer's filled with rubbing alcohol and about 20 drops of reinker, I opened it up and just let the drops fall.  This is not spritzing with the spritzer. That would give a completely different look. I had three spritzers (one for each colour).  The great thing about using alcohol is that it dries so quickly.  After I had my desired level of splatter acheived, I moved on to embossing that yummy slice of cake.

Scrumptious! I stamped the image (from Make a Wish) in Versamark and then used Silver Embossing powder and then heat set it. After that, I just punched it out with the 2.5" circle punch (definitely a fav of mine). It's popped up on a few glue dots...dimensionals! (Just making sure you're following along ;)

I used the Scallop border punch on the thin midnight muse panel and wrapped a piece of the stitched grosgrain ribbon in Daffodil Delight with a faux bow.

This is a great card for any age, any gender. It'd be good to keep some of this in stock.  Have a look at the products below to see what you need. I even included the item number so if you're placing an order, it's easy peasy. (Just remember to go to my Online Store to have your order shipped right to you! Or, if you're in the Kelowna area, email me your order to save a bit on shipping -for orders under $100).

Go have some cake while you make a card!
